How we’re run

Being a mutual is about community

Soha Housing is a community mutual organisation, which means that all shareholders have a say in how we’re run. Shareholding Membership is open to tenants, shared owners, leaseholders and staff. Although £1 is payable when you join, there isn’t financial return to members; the return is social.

Being a mutual is about social return

Members are part of the biggest decisions at Soha, including changes to rules, who joins our Board, and how we invest in resident and communities. Members also hold the Board to account and monitor our performance, by attending the AGM each autumn.

Being a mutual is about direction

Soha is managed through a system of co-regulation, which means we actively encourage and support residents to engage with us both in setting policy and holding us to account for delivery. The responsibility for strategy and direction lies with the Board, while Directors lead staff in carrying that out day-to-day.

New Board members are first nominated by a panel, which includes both residents and existing
Board members. Formal appointment happens after a Members’ vote at Soha’s AGM each September.

If you’re a resident and would like to share your opinions, have a say about how we’re run and what priorities we set, read about how to join in here, or get in touch with our Resident Involvement team.
